Privacy Policy for Pet Care

This Privacy Policy explains how the Pet Care mobile app (package com.toponedev.petcare, "the app", "we", "us") handles your information. Pet Care is published by Toponedev. By using the app, you agree to this policy.

The short version: Pet Care is a local-first app. It works fully on your device with no account and no internet connection. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party trackers; we do not collect your location, and we never sell your data. Information leaves your device only if you choose to sign in and use the optional Family Sharing feature.

1. Information we collect and why

2. Permissions and device access

Pet Care requests access only when it is needed for a feature. Some entries below are Android system capabilities rather than permissions to read your personal information.

`android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW`	Only when you enable the optional Full Screen Alarm setting, so a ringing alarm can appear over the lock screen.	Nothing from this permission. This is Android's Display over other apps special access.
`android.permission.CAMERA`	Only when you choose to scan a family invite QR code to join a family.	The camera preview is processed on your device. Pet Care does not collect, save, upload, or transmit photos or camera images. You can enter an invite code manually instead.
`android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED`	When your device restarts or the app is updated, so Pet Care can restore your scheduled reminders.	Nothing from this permission.
`android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE`, `android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE`, `android.permission.WAKE_LOCK`, and `android.permission.VIBRATE`	While a due alarm is ringing, so it can remain audible and vibrate while the screen is off.	Nothing from these permissions.
`android.permission.INTERNET` and `android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE`	Only when you use optional Family Sharing, so Pet Care can sign in, sync shared data, send notifications, and check whether a network connection is available.	Pet Care accesses network-connectivity status but does not collect it. The shared data it collects and syncs is described in the table above. The app works offline without Family Sharing.

Google Play Billing and Firebase add technical service entries to the final app package. They do not give Pet Care access to additional device permissions. Their data handling is described in the sections above.

3. Photos you add

Any pet photos you add are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers and are not shared with your family, even for a shared pet.

4. What we do not collect

No location data.
No analytics, advertising IDs, or third-party trackers.
No contacts, microphone, or health-sensor data.
We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.

5. How your data is shared

We share data only in these limited ways:

With caregivers you invite: The pets, records, and activity you choose to share become visible to the specific people you add to your family. You control this and can stop sharing a pet or remove a caregiver at any time.
With Google Firebase: Our backend provider processes and stores synced data on our behalf under Google's security and privacy terms (firebase.google.com/support/privacy).
With Google Play, which processes subscription payments.
If required by law, to comply with a valid legal request.

6. Where your data is stored and international transfers

Local data stays on your device. Family Sharing data is stored on Google Firebase and Google Cloud servers, which may be located in the United States or other countries. Data in transit is protected with encryption (HTTPS/TLS), and access to your family's synced data is restricted by server-side security rules so that only your family members can read it.

Cross-border transfer: If you use Family Sharing, your synced data may be stored and processed in countries other than your own. While there, it may be subject to lawful access requests by courts, law enforcement, or government authorities in those jurisdictions. Google is contractually obligated to protect this data. By choosing to sign in and use Family Sharing, you consent to this transfer. You can always use Pet Care fully offline without an account to keep all of your data on your device.

Note for users in Canada: The transfer of your personal information outside Canada is subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. By using Family Sharing, you consent to the transfer of your data to Google's servers, which may be located outside Canada.

7. Data retention and deletion

Local data remains until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app.
Synced data remains until you delete it or, for a shared pet, until the family owner deletes it.
You can delete your account and its synced data at any time. See our Account & Data Deletion page. Deleting your account removes your Google sign-in identity and your cloud records. If you created a family, deletion dissolves that family for all members; if you were an invited caregiver, deletion removes you and detaches your name from the shared activity you recorded.
A family whose subscription has ended is dissolved automatically after 30 days, as described below.

Families whose subscription has ended

Family Sharing data costs us money to store for as long as it exists, so we do not keep the shared copy indefinitely after the subscription that paid for it ends.

When the clock starts. Only when Google Play reports the subscription as genuinely expired, never when you cancel. Play retries a failed payment for about a month before reporting expiry, and that month is not counted against you. In practice roughly two months pass between cancelling and anything being deleted.
How long you get. 30 days from that point. The app shows the remaining days on the Family Sharing screen to the owner and to every caregiver, for the whole period.
How to stop it. Resubscribe at any point during those 30 days. The countdown clears and nothing is deleted. We re-check your subscription immediately before deleting anything, so a renewal always wins.
What is deleted. The shared cloud copy only: the family record, its shared pets, tasks, health and expense records, shared activity history, and its membership list.
What is not. The owner's own pets, records and history stay on the owner's device, unaffected, and can be exported at any time with the app's free backup and CSV export. Caregivers lose their copies of the shared pets, which is what shared access ending means. So if you are a caregiver and want to keep a record of your own, export it before the deadline shown in the app.
Your account itself is not deleted, and your sign-in still works. Only the shared family is removed.

Deletion is permanent and we do not keep a backup of a dissolved family. Note that this does not cancel a Google Play subscription; see our Terms of Service.

8. Children

Pet Care is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you and know how it is used and shared.
Correct or update inaccurate data.
Export / port your data: The app lets you export your own data at any time (backup and CSV export are free).
Delete your account and data in the app or by contacting us (see the Account & Data Deletion page).
Withdraw consent to data collection or the cross-border transfer at any time, by deleting your account or using the app offline without an account. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.

10. Privacy questions and requests

We aim to handle personal information responsibly. Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you additional rights. If you have a privacy question, concern, or request, please contact us. We will review your request and respond within a reasonable time.

Note: Pet Care does not use your data for profiling or automated decision-making.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
